Since the 1970s, Genesee has sponsored race cars and raceways, including Warren Agor, who drove car number 13 around stock car tracks all over upstate New York. While the bowling alley is long gone, the current Genesee Brew House still occupies buildings from the original Reisky & Sky brewery campus.
Along with this traditional American pale lager, the brewery is perhaps best known today for its Genesee Cream Ale, which set the standard for an original American beer style. In December 1984, it purchased the Fred Koch Brewery of Dunkirk, New York. At the time The Fred Koch Brewery was owned by Vaux Breweries of Sunderland, England.[11] In the previous year Koch sold about 55,000 barrels of beer, compared with Genesee's 3.2 million. Genesee transferred the brewing of Koch's brands to Rochester which it continued through the 2000s.
In late 2010, Genesee Brewing developed a new product line under the Rock Wall brewing name. Rock Wall Brewing produces a high alcohol malt liquor product, known as Dog Bite High Gravity. A light beer, Fyfe & Drum was introduced in the 1960s and was discontinued with the emergence of Genny Light in 1978.

Orange Honey Cream Ale represents the brewery’s first spinoff of Genesee Cream Ale, a style Genesee invented. Forms North American Breweries (NAB) and acquires The Genesee Brewing Company, Labatt USA and a perpetual license for Seagram’s Escapes, becoming the largest independently owned beer company in the United States. Genesee introduces JW Dundee’s Honey Brown Lager, which will later be honored for three straight years as one of America’s “hottest beer brands” by beer critics.
Each year, the brewery recreates the “tree” in front of the Rochester brew house. Genesee is one of the few breweries in the country that can say where it was when Prohibition ended. The event brought 4,000 attendees to the Powers Hotel in Rochester. When the brewery shut down during Prohibition, the elder Wehle opened a bakery and earned enough money to purchase Genesee Brewing in 1932, just in time to reopen it as the Genesee Brewing Company. The campaign succeeded and grew to become the brewery’s most successful ad to date.
